There are a number of resources for businesses that wish to enter the world of government/military contracting.
Quantico/Belvoir Regional Business Alliance
One of the best local resources is the Quantico/Belvoir Regional Business Alliance. The Alliance’s mission is to position the region as a welcoming and supporting community to the military and their business partners. The Alliance is an outgrowth of community meetings conducted by the Northern Virginia Community College, Woodbridge Campus.
The Alliance holds events to connect contractors, local businesses, and other stakeholders with the information and opportunities necessary to enhance the readiness of our area for incoming military and federal workers, and to assist those that are already living here.
PTAC
One of the first steps of an interested contractor should be to contact a
Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). The PTAC program was established by congress in 1986 as a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) monitored program that is funded by the Department of Defense. There are 93 PTACs spread across the U.S., including three regional centers in Virginia.
PTACs work to provide businesses with the marketing know-how and technical tools they need to obtain and perform successfully under federal, state and local government contracts - with the mission of creating and retaining jobs, fostering competition and lower costs for the government, and helping to sustain our armed forces' readiness.
The Virginia Procurement Technical Assistance Program at George Mason University is the statewide coordinating office.
