By September, 2011 the Military Department Investigative Agencies will occupy their new home on Marine Corps Base Quantico. While most BRAC moves in the National Capital Area stressed force protection requirements, and therefore the abandonment of leased commercial space in vulnerable buildings, the BRAC 131 directive is aimed at another primary objective of the Department of Defense: co-location of headquarters and similar missions to produce operational synergies. It is no mistake that these investigative agencies are being moved to Marine Corps Base Quantico. The presence of the FBI and the DEA add to the value of the secure location. As Quantico welcomes further investigative agencies, the synergies produced for each agency involved will continue to grow. At some point in the future, Quantico may very well be formally labeled as the center for military and federal investigative agencies.
